Rick Steves' Paris 2011 is a witty and informative look at this ancient city, and is packed with information. But Steves' guidebooks aren't famous for the information they include, but rather for what is left out. Rick Steves wades through all of the accommodations and tourist sites to choose for you where you need to go and what you need to do. In short, he is opinionated and proud of it. Our customers who find Rick and his books become devotees for life. Rick Steves' Paris 2011 includes all the information you'll need to see Paris. In the introduction, he really does introduce you to Paris and French culture, including information about money, tipping, transportation, and communication. In the 'Orientation' section, he describes the city and gives you tips on getting to Paris, internet access, laundry, avoiding theft, the Paris metro, and tours in the city. You will also discover helpful listings of places to stay and places to eat in the back of the book. But the meat of Rick Steves Paris 2011 is really composed of the sights, walks, and tours. Steves breaks Paris down into "walkable neighborhoods" that you can easily use to go from one attraction to the next. Each sight is described and rated on how important Steves finds it. Also listed are the hours for each attraction, and days of operation. Easy-to-read maps make it simple to move from one location to the next. The walks are easy to follow paths through the city, and take you past some of her most breath-taking sights. Steves also gives you all the information you could want on the various tours that you can take in Paris, including cost, dress code, hours of operation, length of the tour, and finally a description of what you will be seeing, including historical and cultural backgrounds. Far from forcing you to stay in the city, Rick Steves' Paris 2011 also offers you various day trips outside of Paris, including trips to Versailles, Chartres, and Disneyland Paris. If you plan to see Paris, and you want to make sure you don't miss anything important, Rick Steves' Paris 2011 is the book for you!
