- Self-adjusting head strap
- Weighs only 71 grams (with batteries)
- Batteries last 140 hours
The Petzl Zipka Plus Squared LED Headlamp and Book Light has a self adjusting spring loaded head strap, 2 strong LED bulbs (one white, one red), 5 modes, a fixed beam, weighs only 71 grams (with batteries), includes three AAA batteries, and fits in the palm of your hand. The self-adjusting head strap allows the Zipka Plus Squared to be used in the traditional fashion (On your head, silly!) but also allows you to put it around your wrist as a hands free flashlight for walking on paths or shining its mega-brightness into your bottomless duffel in the middle of the night without fear of lighting up the room and waking up your slumbering friends. The Petzl Zipka Plus Squared LED Headlamp and Book Light uses the newest Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology to produce a ton of light without the weight, size, and energy limitations of regular incandescent and halogen bulbs. LEDs do not have filaments and so cannot burn out as regular light bulbs do. They have a useful life span of 100,000 hours (That's 11.41 years of constant use). Most likely you will lose this headlamp before you actually burn out the bulbs. But that is only scratching the surface of LED superiority. LEDs use up such a small amount of energy that you can use the three included AAA batteries for 140 hours before replacing them! That is easily 10 times (and maybe 20) longer than regular bulbs. We have found that these headlamps, which were originally designed for mountaineers and backpackers, are ideal as an all around book light and flashlight for the international traveler. The white LED light delivers 50 lumens in maximum mode, and lights up to 35 meters. In economic mode, the Zipka Plus Squared will last 140 hours on a single set of batteries. The red LED bulb is great for preserving night vision (if you use a red light when finding your way around in the dark, you won't suffer from temporary blindness when the light is taken away). And, you can use either the white or red LED in blinking mode to serve as a safety beacon if walking/riding at night.
